"dropstone #40" is part of an ongoing series of watercolor works on limestone paper that explores the movement properties and drying marks of watercolor on limestone paper. Since limestone paper has a smooth surface on which the water rests instead of soaking into the paper, a sculptural pictorial effect is created.
I am interested in the simultaneity of three-dimensionality and two-dimensionality as well as the surface structures inherent in the material limestone. Although the limestone paper is two-dimensional, structures emerge that are in harmony with the surfaces of plastic stalactites and stalagmites in dripstone caves, which are also made of limestone.
